It depends on company operating procedures. I did a flight deck ride once with Air 2000 in an A320. On takeoff from Gatwick, the pilot removed his hand from the sidestick just after rotation and didn't touch it again (therefore disengaging AP) until the 'Retard, Retard' call (50ft radio) at Alicante.
