When did it change? Granted I've now not connected with BA through LHR for about 14 months, but last time I had LHR-DME booked with miles and then I moved back up to EDI so had to book connecting flights. Bags tagged and through check in performed with no issues at either end.
Does it apply if both flights are in one terminal? I ask because my mum will be going FCO-LHR-EDI on two separate bookings (again, plans changed long after the FCO-LHR flight was booked) and that's all inside T5. If she has to collect her bag she will not have a chance in hell of making the EDI flight.
