During the Sea Venom/Gannet era there were no LSOs aboard MELBOURNE. However the Venoms had the Observer in the right seat calling out the airspeed - a luxury I never experienced - only flying from the runways at Nowra with my head on a swivel back and forth peering out over the bulbous nose for the portable mirror/runway and back to airspeed.
