Yes the traffic lights are there, and I did see the Flugleiter operating them. OTOH I saw no gates, these must have been removed since your visit. But I didn't mention the lights because there's nothing very exceptional about them, to me at least, one even sees them at quite big fields like Bern-Belp. Antwerp EBAW used to have them, too, but the (quite important and busy!) road now passes the 29 threshold with a tunnel.
As for the runway length: on the negative side I saw a training CT ultralight's landing roll ending quite near the road, I am sure that was after a "less than perfect" landing - which of course happens during training, especially with a "high-performance" plane. On the positive side I was surprised one of the based flying schools seem to operate even a twin, a Tecnam P2006.
I did not try the restaurant, but in Bavaria I think you would need to search hard for a restaurant that is mediocre or less.
