Still my point about it being high end leisure destination suited to Gatwick stands.
Iberia is already there to take care of everyone else via Madrid.
Obviously BA must have weighed up the pros and cons and decided it most suited Gatwick even on a seasonal basis. Who knows maybe from Heathrow it may have been axed altogether.
Iberia doesn't have a great European network, meaning that the majority of Europeans connecting to Lima would use Air France/KLM.
Of course there's the whole issue of Heathrow slots, but a Heathrow service would have allowed more connections, and the possibility of using the B787 on what is clearly a 'thin' route.
