The points Mr Wayfarers & compton3bravo make are fair enough, it's just that London is supposed to be a major capital; a 24/7 city. Therefore if you say you are a London airport you are claiming to be part of that city, not a sleepy backwater.
Are London (Biggin Hill) Airport, London (Ashford) Airport, London (Oxford) Airport, indeed as someone has pointed out London (City) Airport, how about Terminal 2 at London (Heathrow) Airport, do these not say that they are a London airport yet they close overnight or is this all about picking on the small guy?
