Craig Jay: Just we borrow money to buy a house, governments borrow money to spend on capital projects such as roads, houses, bridges and the like. Just because ScoGov didn't borrow the money, the UK government did and allocated our Barnet share of its borrowing to Holyrood to spend. So in any divorce, we cannot disown that borrowing. That's like these shysters who eye up a struggling business and pre-arrange to buy it when it goes bust, leaving the creditors with nothing and them with a debt-free business. I cannot imagine an independent Scotland being left without its due share of historical borrowing authorised by successive elected governments, whether or not you agree with those capital projects, which in most cases I don't.
