Don't be so naive as to ask why CTC/OAA/FTE charge so much... Because people pay it!
Any business that charges more than a penny below the absolute maximum people are prepared and willing to pay for its product is doing itself a disservice. You may not like it and may not be able to afford it but there are thousands that are happy to pay and the schools will therefore continue to charge those prices. Same reason as to why Apple are able to charge such whacky prices for their products... Because people still buy them.
It's nothing to do with the schools being 'nasty' or 'ruining the industry', they're just selling a product people want.
Like this programme. If enough people don't want to pay the asking price, it will reduce, but I can guarantee that won't happen. If you can't beat them, join them, it ain't changing anytime soon.
