How I got there? The T33-A was indeed the clue intended, so thanks for that.
Searching for "T33-A gate guardians" led me here:

I then worked my way through the page looking for locations that could match the general topography in the airfield image.
From here I clicked this link:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Davis_Field_(Oklahoma) - and bingo, the layout of the airfield matches the challenge.
