Its a contentious issue. While there are friendly smiles, remember there are also smiling assassins. The bully boys and power freaks do exist. !! Believe me.

You do not have to say anything, or give over any document that may (or may not) have anything in it that may incriminate yourself.
If they ask for your log book or MR to take away you must first get from CAsA in writing a 301 ?demand for same. But of course the above still applies...no self incrimination. You have the right to remain silent.
It is imperative with any 'interaction' with a CAsA 'delegate' to be pleasant and show the required documents only.
DO note at all times date, time, names of all CAsA persons and witnesses etc Any notes, video or sound recording could be a life saver at a late date if things go pear-shaped with an unhappy follow up.

While PPLs etc in their training get heaps of info, imho there should be a document available to make these newbies aware of the pitfalls of talking too much, volunteering info... and NOT keeping any record of the CAsA AWI, FOI visit.

CAsA does it it spades for themselves..CYA 101. So you MUST protect yourself by every means possible.

As for photographing docs. Isnt that a like getting a copy without a 301 demand.?

And what about when they ask to look in /search the interior...they must have a reason, and does this require a search warrant?
Because the lay man doesnt fully know the law, they abuse the law....with impunity.

Its not just lowering cloud and rising terrain that is dangerous in aviation !
