Yes it is necessary to convert to CASA if you will be working on Australian registered aircraft. You will need to have an approved organisation assess your experience and qualifications. They will give you the required steps you need to take to fill in any knowledge gaps. This will take the form of an RPL (recognition of prior learning) assessment.
