loganair retirement

Stewardess Charmaine McCall-Hagan, who retired on Friday after 44 years.
A FLIGHT out of Shetland on Friday brought the curtain down on the career of one of the UK's longest serving stewardesses.

Sixty five year old Charmaine McCall-Hagan began her career with British Airways aged 21 in 1973.

Forty four years later she flew her final flight as cabin crew on Loganair's Sumburgh to Edinburgh flight.

She was a regular visitor to Shetland during a career primarily spent in Scotland, and looked after well-known passengers including George Best, Prince Andrew and Princess Anne.

An informal ceremony was held at Sumburgh's departure lounge, and Charmaine said she was "embarrassed about all the fuss".

"I've had a fantastic career and when you think about it I can't go on forever - I must be the oldest stewardess in Britain,” she said.

Loganair managing director Jonathan Hinkles congratulated Charmaine on her "well-deserved retirement".

"It's extremely fitting for her to finish a long and successful career with Loganair, operating routes across the Highlands and Islands as she began her flying life 44 years ago."
