Would be interesting to drag up some old photos of the Lukla airstrip being "constructed" as I recall if was both male and female sherpas from the Namche/Khunde/Khumjung area involved in packing, rather stamping, the dirt of the runway. It was dirt when I flew out of it in early 1974 complete with broken aircraft at the top and bottom of the runway. Changed somewhat since then.
