This is awesome news and credit to Transport CS and KCAA for getting things right and meeting ICAO Audits.
Now the interesting part is we wait and see if the carrier will get it right too. As much as we all see the goodness in JKIA getting CAT 1, the carrier may turn this into a disaster!
For starters, they do not have the right aircraft to fly to Dulles (Rumour is this could be their first destination). 787 is too small to meet the demand leave alone the carrier making a coin out of it. The carrier is aiming for a NBO-Dulles non stop which can work given NBO is 8 hours ahead of IAD and no East Africa airlines flies direct to N.America!
Secondly, the carrier does not have the Crew for North America! As it is now they don't have enough crew for their current routes!
Thirdly, What ever aircraft KQ decides to use has to counter what Delta is planning to use. KLM has been flying to Kenya everyday on a 747 FULL while KQ flies to AMS on a 787! How charming!
The Kenya Govt is currently doing everything possible to protect KQ from aggressive competition from other carriers BUT they can't protect them for life! KQ has to step up and make good business decisions to bring back the "Pride of Africa"!
