Not strictly anything to do with Manchester but with regards to sending staff to look after occasional flights, I was in Havana staying in hotel which also had a BA engineer staying. Aldrin was his first name- mum named him after the astronaut apparently, who came over to meet one of their two flights a week from Gatwick (777). They came in on Wed and Sat and he was based in Nassau, and did two weeks in Cuba then back to Nassau for two weeks, and then back to Cuba. This was late 90 so Cuba was still a little undiscovered by tourist industry, and we were all staying in the Golden Tulip Hotel, as did the crew. He was single and could not believe his luck being paid in Dollars, with good Cuban cigars, and Rum not to mention the local women, and also paid for accommodation and working 2 days a week ! I bet he was sick when they cancelled the route, have to say the crews liked the long layover as well !
