Of course we should welcome and highlight the positives of seeing an increased presence by BA, but there is no way this signifies a change of heart or policy by BA about Regional flying. It is simply a good commercial opportunity for BA to earn revenue from LCY-based assets which are under-utilised at weekends. The routes being flown are already well-serviced from MAN by locos and charters, BA will simply add another option to a higher-end leisure market, perhaps those who are business travellers in the week and will use up their points this way. The LCY sectors are positioning flights offered for sale.
I am guessing they are not 'Speedbirds' and so we will not hear that famous call sign again except on diversion days.
