A couple of interesting planning applications in relating to the road network at the airport.

I think we all know that the current arrangements are a mess, with congestion common at busy times.

The first went in last summer and was granted

EXTENTION OF DURATION
Development Description:
Alterations to the existing internal campus road network and car park layout to include: (1)Reconfiguration of a section of access road to Long-Term Car Park P2, the old terminal building & the delivery bay from one-way to two-way, consequent widening of roundabout (RB4), closure of existing slip road entry to Long-Term Car Park P2, the old terminal building & the delivery bay and erection of directional sign indicating revised circulation arrangements, (2) Alterations to traffic circulation on terminal forecourt to segregate private and public transport, 3 no. car parking directional signs, 1 no. fee information sign, the installation of 7 no. vehicular access/egress control barriers, 4 no. ticket dispensers/readers and 1 no. pay machine and shelter on the forecourt, (3) Reconfiguration of a portion of Long-Term Car Park P4 as a Coach Park to accommodate 6 no. coaches and 3 no. mini buses, re-alignment of entrance to accommodate coaches and relocation of vehicular access/egress control barriers, installation of 1no. pay machine & shelter, provision of dedicated walkway from Coach Park to Multi-Storey Car Park including access ramp and hand rail, installation of 2 no. traffic direction signs, alteration to car park boundary fencing and 1 no. fee information sign (4) installation of a taxi call-up system at the taxi holding area comprising a Variable Messaging Sign. These alterations shall be implemented together with all associated site works and services - Extension of Duration of Permission granted under Planning Reg. No. 11/5247
The second is more recent and the decision is pending. It is largely an alteration to the first one

Modifications to the existing internal campus road network and car park layout, the retention of a taxi holding area and the construction of a taxi viewing platform. The proposed modifications to the internal campus road network and car park layout include the removal of 2 no. gantry signs, a mini-roundabout, reconfiguration of existing car parking space to provide a pedestrian walkway, pedestrian crossings and all ancillary signage, bollards, road markings, fencing and site development works.
The coach park would be particularly beneficial.

However, we know permission was granted for a coach park some time ago and the development was never pursued.
