Most approved FNPTs are used by schools who teach for the IR as opposed to the IMC due to the high cost of acquiring and maintenance.

If you wish to practice procedures, though not actually flying the aircraft, then RANT is ideal (I have no connection with Oddsoft). Any time spent practicing tracking, holds, approaches, etc will be well worthwhile and reduce the time spent in the aircraft at no cost, since you already have the software.
