TAROM didn't operate to Bucharest back in the day, it was an IL18 service (RO761 / 762 if I remember rightly) to Constanta on a Saturday morning. Regrettably, it's no longer the tourist resort that it once was. Bucharest will be a rather different market!
Bob Sopel Travel was one of two tour operators specialising in services to Eastern Europe, with Rochdale Travel being the other one. There were big Ukrainian expat community in Rochdale, Mansfield and Bradford with origins from Lv'iv and to a lesser level, Ivanofrankovsk. There were also some quite large flows from the same areas - related to post-WW2 immigration and textile or coal mining industries - from Latvia. As Tears of the Moon says, it's a much less prominent link in the following generations which has a consequent demand on air travel.
