Because the f-18's are already a part of the emergency response system

Because there are F-18's and pilots already on alert and prepared to launch rapidly.

Because most Citations would bet left in the dust by most large jetliners.

Because F-18 pilots are trained and experienced in intercepting other aircraft.

Because F-18's are equipped with radar that enables intercepting other aircraft.

Because F-18 pilots are trained and experienced in flying formation.
