You have to be crazy to sign a "D" scale package.
That's what A-scalers said about B scale and what B-scalers said about C scale...

The problem is that way too many kids still believe this is a cool and worthy job. Many will run head first into it no matter the cautionary tales from the crusty old farts who are watching it all fall to pieces. They'll amass any amount of debt with the belief that it will all be worth it in a couple of decades, and when they're offered a cost-free way to get in by airlines -who have thus found a way around the massive global pilot shortage everybody keeps predicting but never happens- they'll flock regardless of how crappy the terms are.

The crux of the problem is that there is still a lingering belief that this is somehow a 'dream job'. Until the average outsider understands what this job really is...

[The just-above-poverty level initial income, the massive debt, the boring and repetitive nature of the task, the sleep deprivation and general associated health hazards (look up 'aerotoxic syndrome'), the mostly unleveraged risk of losing one's medical at any time (it only happens to others, right?), the stress, the constant questioning of your abilities until retirement, the unstable family life (look up pilot divorce rate), the constantly dwindling terms and conditions, the highly unstable career, the financial fragility of even the best airline out there, etc]

...things won't change.

And they won't, so bring on E-scale. Think of all the S/Os you could house in those empty airplanes sitting at HAECO between flights!
