I've had a few dark crappy nights and can only vouch for the experience I had. The RDR-4000 worked perfectly for us and kept us smooth and clear in a sky full of shouting panicked voices...
Mind you it was SW Turkish airspace...
I've used WX-2100 systems too and prefer the RDR myself. Nothing beats looking out the window though....
