Stick to the facts about overseas taxation in Australia, or seek professional advice if you don't know. Being a non resident is on a case by case basis. As long as you have a permanent overseas address, only travel to Australia for leisure purposes once or twice a year, don't have wife/kids etc here you will be fine. You can own property, file tax returns, pay tax here on said properties, no issues. It isn't all black and white, the ATO will look at your case individually I am told.
