July 1956 seems to be right at the very end of the RAF Meteorological era before satellite weather observations took over. I believe the last unit flying the Atlantic reconnaissance flights over the Atlantic, called Bismuths, was 202 Squadron operating out of Aldergrove with Hastings aircraft.

They have an old boys network; try them.

Again it may be someone working in an ATC tower.
