Actually yes, and my advice is extremely sound.
Every story has a tale and yes, lots of happy chaps. Typically they're on an RSP with a golden parachute while on LWOP. Who can blame them? Also those who believe their continued 'health' is assured or those that have plenty of options back in their domicile, justifying the risk of employment in China.
Typical expat behaviour is to gloss up a contract to a) justify their own decision and b) entice more colleagues to join to enhance their own experience. Not criticising it, just normal human behaviour, but it creates a false sense of security for those looking in.
Ask those on LWOP to let go of the bungee cord, not a chance. Just wish I'd had their options.
Believe what you want, but on very recent personal experience and knowledge of current Chinese contractors that are NOT happy, I wouldn't be leaving anywhere for China.
