It's not the same. I've spoken to heaps of guys who worked there five or ten years ago with nothing good to say. But, the wheel has well and truly turned. What was acceptable five years ago will get a company almost blacklisted today. The 'Big Four' in China are offering very good contracts, honouring their commitments and have a lot of happy expats. of course there are a few complainers, the 10% rule applies everywhere, but most are quite happy.
I love reading the 'never work in China' comments- I tend to think it will keep the d*ckheads away and maybe even help the pay go even higher!
