My favorite aviation community is Poplar Grove Illinois.
It's a private airport with a hard runway and taxiways behind the houses.
There is a full maintenance facility with the number two rated engine shop in the country on site.
The houses are very nice, and range from loft hangers to million dollar estates. All houses have hangars attached.
The problem however is it's Illinois.
It's near Rockford, which is a dump.
The state income taxes are ridiculous.
The property taxes are too high.
The weather in winter is awful.
And the schools suck.
But apart from that, the people are the nicest you'll ever find.
