Actually the 'admin' jobs in Engineering are absolutely critical and not understanding that shows lack of understanding of what Engineering do. Sure, changing an oily bit at 2am in the morn is important. But when a critical AD come out, you need to have complete tracibility of each part, or the 'admin' of preparing work packages for C checks. It is such a regulated industry that the 'proper' engineering is pretty much only done by manufacturers. Everyone else is in logistics, admin, or following a manufacturer's FAA/EASA approved procedure to the letter. It isn't as if an engineer can decide to use a different set of bolts based on their experience of what works in the past to hold an engine on, or even a different engine removal procedure to what is laid down
