There are only three degrees.
1/ Medical.
2/ Law.
3/ Engineering.
All other degrees are 'vocations'.
Just like there are only three sports.
1/ Hunting.
2/ Fishing.
3/ I forget what the third one is.
All others are sports are 'games'.
Just like there are only three skools of lerning.
1/ Reeding.
2/ Riting.
3/ Rithmatik.
All others are just a 'waste of time.'
All degrees are just 'certificates of education.'
Professional qualifications are what count.
A medical degree means nothing without passing the board exam.
A law degree means nothing without passing the bar exams.
A engineering degree means nothing without, oh, I don't know.

I had a company jumpseater last month who was going to a maintenance facility. He had a degree in Aeronautical Engineering. To advance his career he now attends night school to get his A&P Aircraft Mechanic license. So to go forward, he had to go backwards.
So what I'm saying is 'don't put the cart in front of the horse'.
It's alright to build a career from scratch.
You don't have to start as first officer.
Many pilots started as ramp agents, mechanics, customer service, and flight attendants.
If you are working you way through this.
Then I recommend your part time job be at the airport.
