I flew from TOA during the 1980's while Bob was doing magic with a Shrike Commander. Numerous times I met him and talked with him. He certainly was the definitive pilot, always carefully within his and the aircraft limits while doing things lesser pilots could barely imagine, much less do. He also was a very kind, generous and courteous man. He was generous with his time, always encouraging aspiring pilots, and spreading a spirit of gentility everywhere he went. In these discordant times we need to recall his spirit and do our best to emulate his.
