The parliamentary group of the Socialist Party questioned the government over what it says is "discrimination on the grounds of age" by TAP, since "most of the recruitment competitions" of the air carrier determine a maximum candidate's age.
In a written question to the Minister of Planning and Infrastructure, Members of the Socialist Party, asked the Government to "consider it acceptable that a Portuguese flag carrier, mostly controlled by public capital, promote discrimination in access to employment on the basis of age."
The Socialists also interrogate the executive, led by the Socialist, the actual prime minister, Antonio Costa if "given or will give directions to the administration of TAP for the opening of the next recruitment process this situation is corrected and that the conditions of access to be reviewed."
It is that stress, "in addition to their obligation to serve the entire national territory in a balanced way, TAP Portugal has a special obligation to be a model in its performance, a regulator of good practice". The origin of the PS parliamentary group initiative is the fact that "most of TAP recruitment competitions" discriminate "access to jobs on the basis of age, putting as a condition a top candidate's age at job ". "The last tenders opened by TAP for Engineering Specialist Recruitment, to the area of Maintenance and Engineering, stipulated as the maximum age for admission 30 years or 35 years in case of relevant professional experience," advances, still pointing another case in recruiting Cabin Cockpit (commissioners or flight attendants), where "TAP required that applicants for these jobs had between 21 and 26 years." "Examples follow one another and the Parliamentary Group of the Socialist Party received a number of complaints with their ads to different functions, not considering acceptable to exclude a wide range of the population," support the Members of the Socialist Party.
