I guess we all survived due to the fact that aircraft were not seen as attractive targets for ideologically motivated violence. And there weren't as many willing to carry out those attacks. There's not a single person who doesn't wish we could go back to the old ways. Us for sense of innocence and nostalgia. Others because it would make their goals to kill as many of us as possible a hell of a lot easier.
Some interesting reading in the submissions by the various groups. I don't mean by journos or the self proclaimed aviation expert.
