BFS and BHD are both private and viable so it will never go to one.

Will it go to two? Feasible but unlikely. LDY enjoys poltical support and does so in part because it is an economic lever within the control of Derry City council (now Derry and Strabane council) when all other economic levers affecting the city have been controlled and abused by Belfast (the universities, Invest NI, lack of decentralisation). It therefore has a much greater significance than just an airport and to be fair the road to the two Belfast airports is substandard (again because of abuse of power) and so there is little incentive to get rid of LDY.

But LDY may not always require subverting and at that stage it's future would be secure.

There is no reason for only 1 airport in NI. Airports like Heathrow and Gatwick benefit from scale because of transit passengers. No one is going to be flying to a single NI airport to avail of a transit so there's really no rationale for it. A single NI airport would be smaller than either Edinburgh or Glasgow.

It will never happen.
