Neither do Ryanair, that is why they were such a strange fit at City of Derry. LDY needed domestic routes primarily and then international routes secondarily.
Unfortunately even if the domestic routes are picked up by another operator it is unlikely we will see international routes again for a long time.
But APD is a major issue and probably even more so for the low cost Ryanair model than other airlines. And by a strange quirk the APD on domestic routes is twice what it is on international routes, go figure.
So Ryanair were the wrong airline operating the wrong aircraft on the wrong routes.
120,000 pax p.a. is a substantial route and that it ran for 17 years despite awful timetabling is surely an endorsement of the demand for such a route because it cannot have been making a loss for all that time. Indeed I doubt it was making a loss at all. It is just Ryanair are concentrating on Aldergrove now.
