Probably the best example of centripetal force I've come across, simplicity of it is amazing, however using it in the scenario you mention:

Flying a reasonably precise orbital flight path is fine in stable denser air at lower altitudes but at higher altitudes in mountains it's another ball game completely. Wave, rotor, katabatic/anabatic and shear spring to mind.
