Yes. Being a training captain does move DS closer to management. But the same is true for being a line captain. The captain is the company's face. Welcome to the real world. True hard then none of us would accept upgrades.
Expecting DS to resign his training position and take a voluntary pay cut is ludicrous. If DS can manage his time and accomplish both, great. If not, then it must be one or the other.
You're either justifying your own position as a trainer yourself, or you're D.S. or a buddy of his. A trainer is a management position FULL STOP. A line captain is not. That is black and white. There are no shades of grey in that. As was pointed out on the AOA forums:
Ops D, Section 1, 9.1.B.:
[Members of Check and Training are] discretionary appointments [that] are executive posts within the overall Management structure of the Company.
Pain, you're really stretching to think that line captains, as "the company's face" are therefore "closer to management." Using that bizarre logic, a BC cabin crew or a check-in girl at the airport must be senior management.
Exactly how is expecting DS to resign from management to run the AOA "ludicrous?" No one forced him to volunteer for the position. It is a huge conflict of interest. He is now leading the industrial body that is fighting for protections against management, the very thing that he is! And if it were so "ludicrous" why did our previous Chairman Paul W. do EXACTLY THAT and resign from training?
