EastMids is correct in so much as Manchester is not, and never will be, the alternative to the provision of an extra runway(s) in the London area. It will find and create it's own market for the future.
I would hope that Hainan is over 90% plus full with the fares they have been charging. Beijing for under £350 is excellent for passengers if not for yield.
Manchester United, Manchester City and Liverpool do indeed have a massive fan base in the Fare East, the problem is that whilst they number in their millions, most don't have the money to travel to Europe. Hence, the reason these teams do a Far East pre-season tour every two years.
Garuda have been flying into the EU for about three or four years now with daily flights from Jakarta to both Amsterdam and London. They code-share to Manchester using the KLM service.
