Article (and obviously the photos) says it happened at an airfield, not a confined area.
My guess is they were practicing confined area steep approaches over an imaginary obstacle as you might do in primary training... which strikes me as an odd thing to do in a 109 - maybe a private owner?
Either way, damage is quoted at over 2 million Euros, so it's totalled.
