Some 767s were owned, they were from the days of Britannia Airways and Air2000. Even if there was a lease, the lease was renewed when the 767 was moved to another TUI airline.

The problem is Thomson has a plane shortage. They're short on short haul aircraft so have put 787s flying short haul. And then they're short on long haul aircraft so cannot expand quickly. If they kept more 767s the shortage wouldn't be there.

It's a plane. It's the biggest gimmick in the history of air travel. It's more fuel efficient and pressurised to a higher altitude. All of the talk about mood lighting to feel fresher, touch button windows, better entertainment, and jet lag-beating is somewhat of a sales gimmick.
