The idea is that You live near enough to be able to drive each day (there are single day courses you will have to do throughout the year not to mention 90 min standbys) or if you are commuting you would have to figure something out for these things- I'm not sure how crew on a reserve roster work it- perhaps they move closer for the 2 months?
Croissant is right that they don't provide accommodation for anyone in their own base. Reserve call our time is 2hrs unless it has changed, I live roughly 2 hours from the airport and ops would always give me at least 3-4 hrs notice before a duty on reserve, they are pretty good. There are a lot of commenters that fly living in regional NSW as well as interstate and I know of 2 that live internationally that commute as well. They all just rent somewhere down in Syd when they are on reserve.
