Don't do it!

This place is like a cancer that slowly erodes your enthusiasm and passion for aviation, leaving you somewhat weary and bitter. So, if you love to fly, don't come here!

Flight Ops is run by people who don't know the front end from the back end of a plane and most certainly have no idea what we as pilots actually do nor why we choose to do it.

Pilot managers are political creatures and will not go in to bat for you and will hang you out to dry if expedient for them to do so. Bases are withering on the vine and are looking less and less likely to ever be reopened. Which means, you're stuck in Hong Kong (the world's most expensive city to live in) leaving the prospect of a long and tortuous career working for these narcissists. Training (if you can call it that) is a joke and is currently being farmed out to third parties. Upgrade times are ballooning out and failure rates are high! Don't expect to have control over your roster and your personal life, that option simply doesn't exist. Management have no honour nor integrity (and this permeates right through the company) and will renege on any and all assurances made. They don't even abide by a signed contract. Seniority is used selectively by management and don't think your seniority will improve your lifestyle as the years go by, it just won't. There are very senior captains on the "regional" fleet who can't get off it and their rosters are atrocious, not what you want in the twilight years of your career!

You might be tempted to compare your current earning to what they are offering but really do your homework about the cost and style of living here. The money might still look favourable when you convert it back to your home currency but now you must factor in quality of life because that is something that is in serious short supply both in this airline and this city. If you're looking to cx as stepping stone to get that wide body rating and move onto better places, then go for it but don't get stuck here, you've been warned, as this airline is a shadow of its former self and a career airline it most certainly is not!

I wish you luck and I hope that you choose another option than here and one day you can utter the phrase, "There but for the grace of God, go I", having dodged a bullet by not coming to cx.
