It's clear that HS2 is going to happen.

Phase 1 will receive Royal Assent in the next five or six months, phase 2A will follow shortly behind.

May has made strong speeches in favour before, it was her that went to Crewe the day phase 2A was announced.

Hammond was transport Secretary for years steering the bill through parliament, strongly supporting it.

Phase 2B will go to consultation this winter, if you put together a plan for HS2 to definitely happen as quickly as possible it'd look like what's happening.

To those who suggest extra commuter services should be ran into the large cities instead, could you please explain on what tracks?

The tracks are full into London, Birmingham, Manchester and Leeds, you cannot add more services into those cities on existing tracks.

Hence HS2, take away the high speed services from those tracks to free up capacity to run extra services into those cities, hence why HS3 is dependant on HS2 freeing up capacity on the railway to allow those HS3 services to happen.

Given £11bn of contracts are being tendered at the moment for phase 1, anyone expecting the scheme to be cancelled is living in cloud cuckoo land in my opinion
