I think you'll find her route was via either "friendly" states and or places under British control. Good help, when needed, was readily available and there was very little red tape to deal with.
Logistics was probably much much easier than today however the flip side was technology, (nav aids, met forecasts etc) was pretty primitive (as likely was any cartography for some parts of the route) and the reliability and ability (performance/range/pilot comfort) of the aircraft left much to be desired by today's standards.
