The deeper you get in to the theory, and it is complicated way beyond my intellect and understanding, it appears that the increased aperture (effective area) of the antenna in combination with the rotating variable beam being radiated by omnidirectional, rather than directional antennas, results in a reduction, but not elimination of multi-path propagation errors.
