The above post from Italy whilst encouraging shows how difficult it is to compare. For a single guy paying normal tax and social security you would have to be on around 12000 euros a month to have a net of 6200 in Germany (using an internet tax calculator). Obviously if you are paying off loans, married etc you may pay less tax, but then you are still unlikely to be out buying Ferraris with your spare change. An answer to macdo might be that some of the happy pilots are people who can afford to go part time, massively increasing what they take home per hour and having some quality of life.
