The other day a tiny espresso cost me 28 AED (close to 7 Euros) in a hotel in Deira. Inside a tiny mall, at Starbks, espressos were sold for 18 AED (4.5 Eur)... a SB espresso!!. When in Europe/UK would cost you between 1.5-2.5 Euros... (and tax is paid)
I agree with the rest of you post but if you don't have the sense to shop wisely then you deserve to be ripped off. After discount, a cappuccino in Costa costs 11dhs(€2.50)I could go to a hotel in London and pay £5 for a coffee but I don't. You can shop in carrefour instead of spinneys and save a lot.(still overpriced). But using hyperbole to make your point doesn't fool anybody.
