As a frequent traveller through Manchester I find it strange your friend missed his flight because of security. On several recent occasions when I have queued there has been people going down the lines calling out flights due to depart and moving people to the front of the queue to ensure they get through in time.
Also a 2 day delay for a destination with many departures, sounds strange.
