I was told by a colleague that the loss of Cat III will never be sorted. Other issues include the berms on the western side of the airfield which have been incorrctly profiled and are causing numerous turbulence problems on short final, but some landscaping is planned to rectify this. I asked a relative who was based here in the early 1980s about the turbulence and wind problems on 15/33 and he has no memory of them , which means that the current sporty conditions have been made by the airport management.
I have always found that any airport that is owned by a council(s) is always very poorly managed,as the borough surveyor doesn't have a clue about airport operations!
