As an armchair CEO, hopefully you'd be able to see that the above would be an absolute calamity in terms of crew efficiency and week-long layovers in destinations all round the network! Crew efficiency on long-haul is very much the name of the game, and if you take a look at what TUI are doing by integrating their crew patterns from multiple UK and European departure points, you'd see why this could never compete on cost with the likes of TUI.

More generally, all this talk of yet more long-haul growth shows a level of ambition which has yet to be borne out be reality. With huge VS/DL growth already at MAN in Summer 2017, is it realistic to expect yet more expansion such as LAX or DTW to be piled on top? It may be practical and possible in future, but adding this in 2017 would probably exceed any corporation's appetite for growth and placing too many eggs in one basket all at the same time, surely?
