....... trouble is, the further aft the CG moves, the less stable the aeroplane becomes. Eurofighter will not fly without the FBW as it is inherently unstable (although this is for enhanced manoeuvrability rather than efficiency).
No airliner has yet been designed to capitalise on this. Even though the Airbus is FBW, it remains inherently stable - ie. downforce from the tailplane.
The Boeing SonicCruiser could perhaps be a little different (uplift from a foreplane). Anyone know?
